3 Peaks Yacht Race

Hi Folks

The 3 Peaks Yacht race starts in just over a week now. Boat, legs and logistics are just about ready and raring to go!

A number of you have asked what our schedule is for the race in case you want to support us along the way.

Attached is a best estimate timetable which depends on the winds (rather than how our legs feel!).

Once the race is underway, each boat has a GPS tracker, and can be tracked on the wesbite. So you could monitor our progress on

For an update on how we are getting on, Trevor’s phone is the main boat contact phone (24/7!!), Bill the main back-up team phone (24/7) and Richard Stradling (evenings) the home phone for contacting each other during the race.

If you see us and take any good photos then please send them to  richard.stradling@boltblue.com as we hope to update our just giving web pages as the race progresses.

Its still not too late to sponsor us (a big thankyou if you already have!)

Tough Team Social Run – Wed 9th June

Hi everyone

It’s June, lighter nights are here again and that means the 17th staging of the fantastic Tattenhall Tough Team Race (TTTR) is on the horizon.

For the uninitiated, the TTTR is – well pretty much exactly what it says on the tin and will appeal to both our club’s road running fraternity and fell runners alike. Held from the Flacca Pavillion on the Friday closest to the longest day (18 June, 1915 kick-off), it’s a 9 ½ mile run with teams of 3, the last member of the team scoring the team’s finishing time.

A la Fell runs (it’s a low key affair, with excellent camaraderie), comprising approx ½ road and ½ off-road, the off-road section similar to our weds evening club run apart from the notorious/famous/legendary ‘railway’!! I’ll say no more!!

Well traditionally, since the race’s inception in 1994, each year I’ve organized a ‘pre-race recee’ of the route and that time’s here again.

So on Weds 9th June, I’m arranging an alternative club run, everyone meeting at the Flacca in Tattenhall for our standard 1830 start to enjoy a social run over the race route. The emphasis is on social – let’s save the heroics for the 18th! followed by a couple of drinks in The Sportsman’s Arms in Tattenhall. If we’re lucky we can also use the Tattenhall changing facilities and showers.

If you’ve run the race before then you’ll know it’s a cracking course, if you haven’t then you’re in for a treat! The emphasis on Weds is for a social run, everyone is welcome, 1830 start.

Details below, including course map, entry form, course profile and a very good picture of the Grim Reaper, who traditionally positions himself at the top of The Railway (I wonder why??!!):

So, I’ll look forward to seeing as many people as possible there next Weds, a great opportunity for a decent run, an alternative to our own Club route and a bit of a social afterwards! How good is all that!

See you there!

Best wishes

1st Place for Helsby – Tunnel 10k

Hi all
Many thanks to Phil Gillard for reminding me the Mersey Tunnel 10k Results and the brilliant performance by Helsby’s Alison Meakin who finished 1st place in her age category. A great run, especially considering the popularity of this event at over 2150+ runners
Full Results here
728th Alison Meakin F55+ 1st Helsby R. C.
and I think we also had another Helsby runner at this event but i’m unable to find the Helsby RC tag in the results so I apologise in advance for this.
Remember, please let me know (or send by email to the group or add to the blog) any races you do so we can keep upto date what Helsby members are doing.
For those wishing to do a fast and flat 10k, there is the Capenhurst 10k this Sunday 11.00am, details here (plus a fun run)

Mynydd Myfyr Results

A pleasant day at Trefonen nr Oswestry saw fewer runners than of late at the latest Helsby Fell Counter, but strong performances from all members saw Helsby figure prominently in the results

Most noticeably.Jackie Keasley, although now tapering for the huge Three Peaks challenge ran a commanding race, taking people both on the uphill and downhill sections to finish in 1st place for her category.
