Fell Series 2011

With the Breidden Hills race on 9th October the Helsby 2011 Fell season reached its conclusion.

Another fine year of racing with a couple of significant events taking place.  On 4th July Phil Gillard celebrated his 50th birthday by racing in the Hathersage Gala fell race. Then only a few weeks later it was almost deja vou when Andy Smith celebrated his 50th by racing in the Green Green Grass of Home, he even got the number 50 to commemorate the event.

The season also saw many of the latest Helsby recruits getting their first taste of the Fells. They all seemed to enjoy the experience and two of them Jayne Joy and Paul Porter liked it so much that they signed up for the Fell Relays. Hopefully this trend will continue next season.

The Ladies series was won by Jackie Keasley with Jane Ashbr0ok in 2nd and Rachel Arnold in third. The Three Peaks and mountain marathons are obviously excellent training

No surprise that the winner of the Mens series was Adair Broughton who seems to be getting quicker each year. Jim O’Hara moved up the table this year for a well deserved 2nd place and Phil Gillard might now have reached his 50th year but that didn’t prevent him from taking 3rd spot.

Congratulations to the winners and to all those who took part in the series.  I hope to see you all out racing the fells next season.

  1. Thanks for the post and collating all the results for the season. Great to see so many green vests out on the fells this summer, and some fine performances too. Looking forward dishing out the prizes at the club presentation in the spring.
