Helsby round-up 4th – 8th July 2012

Hi all
Wednesay 4th July was the women’s only 5k at Birchwood Forest Park. Full results and details can be found at the following link (Spectrums website)
3 ladies out from Helsby all well in the top third of the field and all 2nd in their respective age categories, some great running. Positions and times as below
4th        Jane Ashbrook            20.11
15th      Carol Shaw                 22.35
18th      Janet Robertson         23.04
Thursday 5th was the 2nd in the 4 race Deeside Multi-terrain series of events. With a slightly modified course due to no gates being opened the marshals did a great job on the night directing people, although the front two runners did end up running nearly a mile less than everyone else due to some early confusion on the route. Race was just short of 6 miles (usually 5). There were five Helsby vests out on the night with positions and times as below. Worth also mentioning that Jim O’Hara had biked from Helsby to the race. A sterling effort Jimmy! Results have been modified (by race organisors) slightly to take into account the different distances of the front two runners.
Full results from the Dee Striders club website below

This weekend 7th & 8th July saw the 34th Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon with some Helsby members making good use of the weather as quoted by Jane “We had a great weekend, the weather couldn’t have been better. We did some good running and spot on navigation and picked up a good few places on day 2 when everyone else was getting tired!!”
Helsby Chris Baynham-Hughes was out with Chester Tri’s Martin Wilcock in the Scafell category to secure 10th place for a great weekend of running. Andy Robinson with his partner Christopher Vardy ran a brilliant 11th in Carrock Fell category and Jackie and Jane were 53rd in Kirkfell category

It’s the first race of three in the Inter-Club Fell running competition this Wednesday 11th July as well as being the 6th Helsby Fell Counter in our series. All runners who turn up will score points, and points are also awarded by age category. The Druid has been a popular race for Helsby in the past and runnable by everyone who can do the normal Helsby Hill run on a Wednesday night. Race is advertised as nearly 10km with 458m of climb (basically to the top of Foel Fenli opposite Moel Famau and back) A small road climb to begin then all off road on tracks and fields. For those who can’t run or want to watch, the race organiser has also asked for some marshals so if you can help out on the night please let me know and I’ll forward that information on. Further details are available on the Welsh Fell Runners website www.wfra.org.uk. Race is at 7.30pm so I’d suggest leaving the club at 6.15pm on the night.
Our rival teams are Spectrum and Tattenhall, if you can overtake any of them in the race that will be fantastic (it is a competition after all) but first and foremost let’s enjoy the run out!
Please let me know if I’ve missed anything out for the weekend as I can always update the round-up when I put it on the Helsby Blog
Hopefully see lots of you at the Druid
