It was the Christleton 5k on Friday but any concerns about weather were without foundation if results are anything to go by! Saturday was also the Bedgelert to Snowdon Challenge. This was a tough race from Bedgelert to the summit of Snowdon and attracted some of the best runners from across the country including England Internationals and Commonwealth runners. A fantastic race to support and we had Jayne Joy first in for Helsby for 17th place followed by Jim O’Hara in 24th. Thanks to Joe and Mario out on the course in support.
Some photos of the day on the Helsby Flickr website
Results should appear on the WFRA website shortly
Saturday was the Hutton Roof Fell Race with three green vests out. Report from Phil Gillard with a couple of links he sent below, for photos and results
“Really nice romp across the Yorkshire Moors with one stiff climb from a lovely village show. A shower before the race made the limestone a bit slippy but apart from that perfect..”
Some nice photos here
and a report from Paul Foster here
“This was my 2nd visit to the Hutton Roof fell race in 2 years, great 7.5 mile race with 1300 ft of climb. The race is part of the Hutton Roof fete which is good for a family day out if the weather holds out and of course the homemade cakes.
Drove up with Jamie Dowdall and arrived in plenty of time to register and go hunting for the homemade cakes. Just as we were heading towards the village hall for a brew I heard my name being shouted, with not many clubs from the North West it was good to see another Helsby runner Phil Gillard..
The race it’s self is a great race, small climb to get you up onto the first level then runnable gradual climbs until you drop down before the scramble up the face of Hutton Roof crag then it’s back with more gradual climbs and descents back to the finish.
I would recommend this race for anyone wanting to try a fell race.”
37th Jamie Dowdall 1.00.27 (2nd claim)
129th Phil Gillard 1.11.20
178th Paul Foster 1.16.41

Sunday was also the Liverpool Rock and Roll Marathon where Helsby’s Tom DeJong and Gareth Boyd ran. I’ve had a message from Tom his time was 3.52.28 and he ran in the name of Jed and Gareth finished in 3.54.49. Well done Tom and Gareth.
If I’ve missed any events then please let me know and hopefully you’ve all had a nice bank holiday weekend.
Keep on running
