Helsby weekly round-up 17th – 23rd August 2015

Happy Thursday to you all! The school holidays are nearly over, it’ll soon be Christmas and that means only two things; Borders League and Cross Country, so I hope you have all been training hard over the summer months…

On to the trials and tribulations of our green vested athletes, it’s been a quiet week:

First up we have the brutally flat 😉 5k in Capenhurst, which is in memory of Ellesmere Port RC runner, Neil Lavery, last Wednesday the 19th. It is renowned for being a PB course and we had 13 of our illustrious Green Army out on the night. A short report by Derek “Degsy/Messi” Morris follows:

Wednesday 19th saw plenty of the Green Army take part in the EPRC Capenhurst 5k. As we lined up for the start the rain held off which was nice. The hooter took me by surprise as Chris Fitzpatrick must have had a sore throat, as the famous Green Army chant was nowhere to be heard! Anyway the race is a very fast course seemingly slightly downhill for the last 2 miles. I surprised myself ducking under the 19 min mark and with great running by all the Green Army including some PB’s.  It’s definitely one for your calendars next year, and a must if you’re PB hunting.

Huge well done to Jim O’Hara who came a fantastic 6th in this very tough 17.5 mile, 8500ft climb fell race in 4hrs 24 mins. Jim is on great form at the moment and just keeps on knocking out some very tough races most weekends!
