Helsby RC weekly round-up 22nd to 28th February 2016

Welcome to the weekly round. Before we go into the past weeks running news please take time to read a message about the Wednesday club runs:

Hopefully you all will have received the email regarding the new structure to the Wednesday club runs. If not please let us know so we can forward this on to you. Also we will be handing out some printed versions.

This Wednesday (2nd March) will be the Muster run to Frodsham, therefore as well as leaders we need some tail runners to volunteer. We already have some group leaders organised as follows:

Group A – Leader – Colin Thompson

                  Tail Runner required

Group B – Leader – Jo Lacking

                  Tail Runner required

Group C – Leader – Jackie Keasley

                  Tail Runner required

Beginners – Leader – Betty Grieve

                     No tail runner required

Over the Hillers (headtorch run to the hills) – Leader – Andy Robinson

                              No tail runner required

If you are interested in volunteering to tail run please let one of us know (email below or Facebook). The role will be to stay at the back of your chosen group and make sure nobody get left behind. At each muster point the group leaders will run back to meet the tail runner and as a group run back to the muster point. In theory everybody should keep moving and stick together as a group.

Thanks

Colin & Jane

And now over to a report submitted by Colin Thompson:

High Legh 10k

It was great to see plenty of green vests at our 2nd road counter of the season. Top notch organisation from Lymm Runners made this a very enjoyable race, they even managed to organise lovely sunny weather! The course is definitely PB potential but certainly isn’t flat, more mildly undulating with a little bit of off road (much to the bemusement of the roadie contingent!) A loop around the High Legh countryside makes it a visual feast with spectacular views and many of the locals came out to cheer on the athletes which was nice to see.

Now to the results, it was PBs galore with 5 of our runners securing new PBs and Jane Asbrook securing 2nd lady overall! Well done Jane! Both the men’s and ladies teams were 2nd overall and with 6 of our runners all under 40 minutes it was a very successful day at the office for the Green Army! A big well done to all who participated!

As always, a big thank you to Joe and Mario for their support, it really gives you a spring in your step when they suddenly emerge shouting their words of encouragement!

7th Colin Thompson 35:45

Thanks Colin, for the report. Next it’s over to Andy Robinson who has completed another Long Distance Walking Association event – but as a runner! Well done Andy:

South Shropshire Circular LDWA challenge event

I had a great day out on Saturday running the South Shropshire Circular

LDWA challenge event. Based in Clun, this was 25 miles and 1400 metres

of climbing, on a route that was a secret until registration on the

day. Shropshire’s great for running hills, & although it was a bit hazy

we still got the views. Map and compass work was key – at least for me

as I had nobody to follow all day. One runner got past me by taking

easy options rather than the recommended route, so I finished 2nd in 4:47.

Upcoming Events

Sunday 6th March

An invite from Andy Robinson (Club members will have received meet up details in their weekly email):

On my birthday, Sunday 6 March, I will be running from my house

to the Leigh Arms. Start time 11am. It’ll be 5.5 miles, fairly flat, mostly

river and canal paths, possibly with some mud but it’s drying out fast.

I’ll then be having a few beers, possibly a sandwich, & walking back

along the river (about 2.5 miles, flat). There’ll be a walking party too

(i.e. my family). Anyone wanting to join me is welcome, we’ll go at the

pace of the slowest. Or you could just turn up at the pub. Dogs welcome.

And yes, you can bring your mother as well if you want.

Andy Robinson
