Helsby RC weekly round-up 8th to 14th January 2018

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the weekly round up. We had a clash of fixtures at the weekend but the Green Army showed its strength in depth by fielding excellent teams at both the Runcorn Town Park x-Country and the Abergele Borders League fixtures!

Reminders

As if anybody needed reminding ……….. we will again be hosting 4 Villages Half Marathon this weekend.  So good luck all Green Army members who are running in the the event and a massive thank-you to everyone who has offered to help out over the weekend.

Looking ahead to the following weekend,  we have Race 5 of the NW XC League on Sunday 28/01/18. However, it looks like the venue is yet to be confirmed so keep an eye on Steve’s website

There is also the Tarren Hendre fell race on Saturday 27/01/18 at 12pm. Race HQ is at Abergynolwyn Village Hall, LL36 9UU – It’s an AS category race – 6miles/2000ft. (the route on my Strava)  Take full kit and be prepared to navigate if the weather’s bad. Further details.

Thanks to Chris Murray for sending in a race report:

“A proper helping of green vests were out in force this weekend at the Runcorn Swimrun, sorry I mean XC. This always seems to be a popular race with it being on many of our doorsteps and with it clashing with the border league fixture it was nice to see so many faces. The start and finish of this course is always in shin deep water, but I think it just adds to the fun. At least for those of us who can’t be bothered to clean our cross-country shoes after a race this course allows us to start and finish with clean shoes. Clever planning or coincidence I’ll let you decide. There was plenty of support on course, especially on the approach to the fabled ski slope which was greatly needed as this is tough going on goosed legs after coping with some seriously sticky mud on course. Everyone finished with a smile and knackered legs while some of us (Davyd) finished with a smile even if it was hidden under a couple of inches of mud after his unplanned mud bath. Well done all on a hard run race.”

I haven’t seen any results from Town Park yet but they should be HERE when published.

Green Army at Abergele Borders League

Thanks to John Whitehead for sending in the following race report:

Borders League Round 3 Report

“Borders League round 3 saw a fixture clash for the green army, the choice was Runcorn town Park XC with icy water, Mud and the formidable dog poo ally or a nice trip to the Seaside with sun, clear blue skies and Rhyl Sun centre just around the corner. the choice was easy, Abergele Borders League it was… 5 Miles along the seafront loop around a caravan site and back along the seafront and not a puddle or spot of mud in sight… Easy!

There was a great turn out for the #GreenArmy with 26 Runners out (20 Gents and 6 Ladies), first the Ladies where all 6 runners ranked within the Top 20 of their Category, June Swift (Whitehead) took her first borders league victory with a 20 second lead over second lady and Alison Halsall close on her heals finishing an impressive 7th Lady.

A close fort battle happened between Danny, Chris C and Fitzy, at 2 miles they were neck and neck and with 200 meters to go Danny pipped Fitzy at the line to be the first Helsby Male home.
Overall the team standings are all the fivers, Helsby Men and Women finished 5th with the men scoring 664 points and the Ladies 111 leaving both teams in overall 5th Place.
Days like Sunday when there’s a fixture clash really show how great a club Helsby really is with a great turnout at two events… #GreenArmy”

The full results can be viewed HERE, and I’ve also lifted this post by Tim Palmer from social media:

“Congratulations to both Lucinda Lamb and Juni June Whitehead for winning the Runcorn Town Park XC and Abergele Border League respectively. Great day for the Helsby ladies particularly as our 2nd lady in both races (Laura Baynham-Hughes and Alison Halsall) were in the top 10.”

If anybody does a report for the Borders League give me a shout and I’ll update the blog.

Parkrun

Helsby RC again fielded a strong presence with 17 athletes at various Parkruns on Saturday – pretty impressive considering the turnout we also had at the two race fixtures.  Rachael Holden and Debbie Read were the 2nd ladies home at Widnes and Ellesmere Port respectively. Well done to everyone who ran over the weekend.

Our consolidated Parkrun results are HERE

That’s it for this week. Please keep sending any contributions into helsby-race-reports@outlook.com

Thanks,

Jim
