Firstly can we give a warm welcome to our new members, we have had three people joining us in less than a week which is great news! They are Ian Peers, Rebecca Tate and Mark Amphlett. Welcome to the club! We hope you enjoy your time here at Helsby Running Club.

Thinking ahead to warmer (& drier) running this Summer ….
Our 4th Trail series counter is Race the Train, it’s a great opportunity to make it a HRC club camping weekend. There something for all the family with steam train rides and..
The last couple of years we have used a Towyn campsite within close walking distance of the start, finish, town & beach. If you would like to come along & join in the Summer run & fun then the campsite details are:-
Pall Mall Campsite Towyn 01654 710384. Note it’s the Towyn in Gwynedd. LL36 9RU, not the one near Rhyll!
It’s best to reserve a spot by giving them a ring now (no depost required) as Towyn fills up with tons of running club campers (to add to the atmosphere). Hopefully see you there!
Our 4th road counter (the Chester Spring 5) is next Wednesday 11th April. It’s a fast 5 mile course and compared to other road races is good value for money at only £11 entry fee. We normally get a good turn out from HRC so get your entries in folks!

Rivington Pike Fell Race
Report by Tim Palmer
On Easter Saturday, Max and I ran in the Rivington Pike Fell Race, one of the oldest fell races having been run since the 1880s. It is a short fell race, 3 miles and 700 feet of climb from Horwich to the top of Rivington Pike and back– so a bit like a Parkrun on steroids! The course record by John Wild in 1981 of 15:53 is very impressive.
This year, about 350 runners took part with a good representation of north-western clubs – both road and fell. The course has a bit for both as about half of it is on tarmac; although I was grateful for fell shoes on the steep descent from the top of the Pike. Max finished 19th in 21:05 and I finished 142nd (13th Vet 50) in 26:47.
Thanks to Katie for support at the top gate; and to Horwich RMI Harriers & AC for putting the race on.
Sadly no reports for our 3rd road counter at the Hale 5 race which is a shame as it looked like a fantastic event, it would have been nice to get a review from a runners perspective.
Congratulations to Ian Hamling for first Helsby runner home in a very impressive time of 31:35 (which I believe is a PB) and Rachael Holden who scored another PB in 37:21 to take the chequered flag for the ladies. Also well done to John Rossiter for an age group win and well done to all seven green vests who turned up. Brilliant running all!

Well done to everyone who managed to get to a parkrun on Saturday morning, the weather was pretty miserable but that didn’t deter our hardy members! Congrats to Bish for a win at Phoenix (after a cracking battle with myself) it’s good to see him getting his speed back. Also a great run from Janet Robertson saw her second lady at Delamere. Well done to everyone else, parkruns are brilliant for a bit of quality training so it’s good to see people using them each week.
