Another great evening for running and a decent green turn-out. With a lot of talk of ‘fast course this’ before the event, the pressure was certainly on. And there were some fine results, with possibly 4 PBs on the night – not sure. Ian was certainly close to his best times, all set when he was considerably younger (and with more hair?). I got one (albeit a soft one, since it’s ages since I’ve run a 5k, and still short of the magic sub-20). The fast improving Alex shaved some more off his previous. Ed too?

Please note that this coming Wednesday is the Urenco 5k held by Ellesmere Port Running Club at Capenhurst
Sunday 13th December dawned bright and sunny, ideal conditions for the last fell counter of the year at Mortimer Forest on the Shropshire/Herefordshire border. The race venue was the Moors School, an independent school on the edge of Mortimer Forest which allowed for plenty of parking together with the luxury of hot showers at the finish. There was also a baked potato/burger van laid on. The race itself was a tough 10 miles of fairly muddy tracks, a couple of stream crossings and some short but sharp climbs.
5 Helsby stalwarts entered the race and a special mention should go to Danny who was competing in his first club counter finishing in an excellent 7th position.
362 runners completed the course and the Helsby placings were

Let’s hope for some good weather at tonight’s Rainow 5. A decent turnout should be expected from the fell runners amongst us, with this race featuring as one of this year’s Club Counters.
5m and 750′ of climbing, so hopefully nothing too desperate.
Runners collect points from their perfomance against other club members towards the overall club championship. Points mean prizes at the end of the year.
