Saturday and Sunday saw the weekend Bolton Hill Marathon where Dave and Lesley Feakes ran on Saturday’s race.

Just a quick note to let you know that Lesley and I took part in the Bolton Hill Marathon on Saturday 8th March. This was the second year the event has taken place and it is described as one of the toughest marathons in the UK. The route follows some of the most beautiful trails and Country Roads on the West Pennine Moors and took us up and over Winter Hill, past White Coppice and along Anglezarke Reservoir, past Rivington Pike and Barn, through Barrow Bridge village and down the famous miners 63 steps to the finish on the outskirts of Bolton. The race is well organised and the marshalling and drink / food stations were fantastic. The event takes place over 2 days and so some hardy souls completed both races.

The terrain was certainly variable. In some places you needed fell shoes and in others you could have comfortably got away with road shoes. We wore trail shoes which for me was a bad decision as I ended up face down in several peat bogs whilst Mrs Feakes nimbly jogged across them. We ran the race together and completed it in a time of 04hrs 55mins 36secs which we were very happy with given our goal of completing it in under 5hrs. A great race and one I would recommend to others.

133rd                 Dave Feakes                 4.55.36
134th                 Lesley Feakes               4.55.36

Jim Jones was at the Ian Roberts Fell Race, his second of two races at the weekend. Race report below

“I did the Ian Roberts Fell Race on Sunday. A great course around Marsden Moor in ‘Last of The Summer Wine ‘ country. The glorious sunshine topped a great event hosted by Holmirth Harriers and was well worth the dive up there. The first 3 miles of the 6.4 mile route was a steady climb over mostly tussocky grass, interspersed with boggy areas. Then came the hard work! A steep 250ft climb followed by a steady descent before another hardish climb and some slippery descents. There was then a decent run into the finish at Marsden Cricket Club and some fabulous home made cakes and a very generous buffet laid on by the Harriers. A great day out, and I even went home with sun tan and bottle of wine spot prize too.”
