XC Results Northwest League @ Clarke Gardens

Hi – Please find attached results for the 2nd XC of the season, last Sunday’s Northwest Cross Country at Clarke Gardens. Four Helsby runners turned out and positions below.

11th Adair Broughton

32nd Ian Landucci

66th Steve Riley

102nd Andy Smith

This unfortunately put us in last place of the men’s league. No ladies turned out so no team score there. Full results here http://www.btinternet.com/~steve.saunders/ss/xcountry_10.htm

Plenty more XC’s left in the season if anyone would like to participate, great runs and free! A quick reminder for anyone wishing to do the Sefton Park Cross Country, as it is a chip timed event I’ll need names, DOB and category by the end of this week.

Best, Adair

Runcorn Town Park xc – Sunday 7th March

Rescheduled from January, when it fell foul of the snowy weather. Usual venue in Runcorn Town Park, organised by Warrington Road Runners. Map and directions of the course (PDF).

Stop Press: Helsby fields full XC team! Yesterday saw 6 adult males with nothing better to do than run around in the grass and mud of Runcorn’s Town Park. Well done to everyone for turning out, on what was actually quite a tough race for its modest distance. Thankfully devoid of long dull sections, there was always something to keep your interest. Sometimes it was a bit too interesting, as the small crowd gathered at the top of the ski slope will attest, witnessing the procession of runners slow to almost a grovel!

The rescheduling and subsequent clash with one or two other events, meant the overall turnout was down, so it was all the more gratifying to get a full team out. Adair Broughton, Steve Riley, Andy Robinson, Roy Tunstall, Chris Hatton and Andy Smith all seemed to enjoy themselves. Full results might be a little while yet. Let’s not forget the 7th man Joe, present  again in full voice. I for one was encouraged in the final stretch to try for a couple of extra positions by his vocal support, at a point when I was otherwise settled in for the finish.

Superb conditions for running: a still morning with plenty of sunshine, contrasted nicely with those stretches yet to see any warmth, still covered in frost.

PS That’s All Folks! Cross country season is OVER. Those with a taste for dirt and hills will have to look elsewhere, as the fell season starts to get into gear. See you on the hill!

Recent Cross Countries

Sunday 31st January – Walton Park, Liverpool

Race 4 in the North West League.

A cold crisp day with a covering of snow on the ground saw race 4 in the Sunday League Series. The full results have not yet appeared on the web however the finishing positions were;

Adair Broughton
Ian Landucci
Steve Riley
Andy Smith
Kevin Bell
Roy Tunstall

Andy’s hopes of an easy run in to the finish were scuppered when Mick Charman (Helsby old Boy now Spectrum) appeared on his shoulder. However all credit to Andy for raising a sprint and getting the extra point for Helsby. Unfortunately injury forced Roy to finish his race early, but he’s hoping to be out at the Cheshire Champs on Sunday.

A good race was rounded off with a fine selection of sandwiches and other goodies.

Sunday 7th January – Clarkes Gardens, Liverpool and District Championships

A very strong field turned out for Liverpool and District Championships a race dominated at the front by Liverpool Harriers. The competition was strong right down the field and the  Helsby finishing positions were

45    Adair Broughton    38:47
85    Ian Landucci         42:47
137  Andy Smith           52:15

Full Results can be found at http://www.lps-athletics.co.uk/l&d/2009-10/champs_results2010.pdf

The next Cross Country is the Cheshire Champs at Reaseheath, Nantwich. This is a pre-entry race so if you haven’t already entered you will have to look at other alternatives, but don’t worry you won’t have to look far.

Sunday 14th February – Race 3 in the Border League

This race is along the coast at Abergele, details can be found at the Border League website  http://www.bordersleague.org.uk/

If you would prefer a Cross Country then the next one is at Birchwood on Sunday 21st February

Hope to see some of you over the next couple of weeks.

Beacon Park XC 22/11/09

Sunday 22nd November at 11.00am Beacon Park. The sunday league races are fairly low key with a nice atmosphere and good support. This race was a two lap course totalling 4.4 miles.

Quite an undulating and interesting course so will make a great cross country if nobody has tried one yet. What’s a little mud and as much fresh air your lungs can handle?

Helsby results: Adair – 17/114, Steve 51/114.
Great race, let’s aim for a bigger turn out next time! Full results for the series.
