Llantisilio fell counter results

Please find attached the results for Race 1 of the Helsby Summer Fell Series, the Llantisilio Mountain Race nr Llangollen.

This race at 6.2 Miles and 2100ft is set in some brilliant scenery and fairly unforgiving on what was a hot April Saturday. With over 90 runners on the start line including five green vests, soon the smiles and banter quickly turned into grimaces of intent as the race begins with a steady ascent that can quickly turn into a climb. Just check out the video linked below.

For pictures and video please see Pete Douglas’s brilliant site here

Race 2 in the fell counter series is the Dinas Bran (AS) race which in the past has been a club favourite.

Dinas Bran is located in Llangollen and will be held on Wednesday 4th May @6.45pm. Register on the night at Dinas Bran School, Llangollen. (More details will be sent nearer the time)

For those wishing to experience their first fell race this would be a sensible and intriguing first encounter! The race is 4.3mile and 1150ft so would be a great introduction to fell running. Race entry fee is just £4 and includes refreshments and prizes.

Tattenhall Tough Team Results 2009

Please find a direct link to the Tattenhall Tough Team challenge results

and some pictures of the notorious or is that nefarious railway

A great atmosphere, some diverse terrain (albeit with some road heading
out and back), good support, the grim reaper, cake and team prizes.
What more could be asked?

So firstly let’s congratulate Helsby’s leading ladies ‘BevanJan’ who
were the Ladies Category Winners! The team, with some clues in the name, consisted of Beverley Roberts, Vanessa Griffiths and Jane Ashbrook.  Well done! ….and the wine was fantastic btw

Supporting this result were the ‘Hells B Team’, captained by Ian
Landucci supported by Adair Broughton and Keith Middleman
(unfortunately not a Helsby Runner, otherwise known as a ringer! No
comments Mike :D) who managed to finish in a fine 4th place overall,
after a good sprint finish by Ian, to make them the ‘Mens Category
Winners’…. can we find a fit and feisty 3rd runner next year to help us
get under the 60 minutes?? I think Steve might be that man!

And another special mention to a team that had three Helsby runners was the Mens Vets team, with the spirited name of ‘Let’s work together’,
with a fantastic run by Dave Feakes who was running with Mario Foschi
and Richard Mitchell to finish a fine 14th place overall.
Congratulations to them. And they were all still smiling at the finish, =D a good sign.

Maybe the best name of the night goes to the next Helsby team
‘Madonna’s orphaned Children’, comprised of Mike Searle, Dave Madders
and John Gallon. Great running!

And Jackie Keasely somehow found the energy to run at Tattenhall as a
solid preparation for Freckleton on Sunday. Now that’s commitment.
Definitely not ‘over the Helsby Hillers’ and supporting her were Leslie
Feakes and Rachel Arnold. Once again great running.

see you all (and more) there next year

Mike’s tough team dress rehearsal

Hi everyone — The classic Tattenhall Tough Team Race is later this month and traditionally, I have always organized a ‘pre TTTR recee’ as an excellent alternative to our usual Weds night run.

Anyone who has run the TTTR before knows that elements of it certainly live up to its name! However the recee is deliberately a relaxed, social, group run, in what is an extremely scenic area. For anyone unfamiliar with the route, it is about 50% road and 50% offroad, with the offroad sections similar to our own Weds evening run and taking in some parts of the Sandstone Trail and Peckforton Hills amidst very attractive countryside.

Attached: ToughTeamMap. We then follow up the recee with a couple of drinks in Tattenhall which sits very nicely!

The plan is as follows:

  • All meet at the Tattenhall Recreation Club by 18:30. (The Club is Tattenhall runners clubhouse and where their Border league starts and finishes). Tattenhall is quite small so it’s pretty easy to find anyway. Link:  http://www.tattenhallrunners.com/18.html
  • Run start by 18:45.
  • On return, use the showering and changing facilities at the clubhouse (which are good standard)
  • Decamp to Tattenhall for a couple of drinks – wa-hey!

I discussed it at the club and there’s already a gang raring to go but obviously not everyone was present. Everyone is welcome and please note that it will be a social, comfortable run for all. So please come along next Weds eve for something a little bit different from our usual fare – you won’t be disappointed. Hope to see you there!

Best wishes,

Mike
