A busy weekend!
It was a great day for Helsby and Cheshire on Saturday with Jayne representing the County at the Inter-counties XC in Birmingham at Coften Park. Jayne, for once not in the green vest but wearing the striking black and gold of Cheshire ran a commanding and intelligent race on the muddy and undulating terrain surrounded by the counties most talented runners to finish in 113th place. It was a great team effort for Cheshire, with each runner pushing all the other Cheshire counters to secure a 7th place out of over 30 counties. As Andy Smith states “If Jayne hadn’t pressured Jodie in the final lap, she (Jodie) might not have made that last bit of effort to take a couple of crucial places. Real team work.”
From Jayne’s perspective her race report is here
“Cold, wet, mud, more mud and a bit more muddy substance…perfect cross country conditions!
Coften Park and the day of the UK Inter-county Champs had landed. I don’t think beforehand I’d quite appreciated the massive scope of this event with thousands of runners and spectators of all ages trudging, sinking, skidding about the park, with TV camera’s strategically placed also thrown in the mix.
The senior ladies race was 8000m, exactly 5 miles, essentially 3 laps of the course. At the start horn we were fired out of our respective county pens, to push ourselves round what was a tough undulating course. The standard of women running was admirable – how do people move so quick through such terrain? I won’t lie, it hurt! But at the same time was thoroughly enjoyable and aside from the final climb leading to a descent and the finish (at which point vomit was ever closely looming!) I found myself wishing for it not to be ending so quickly??
What can I say….all in all an amazing experience and a fantastic day. It’s definitely given me an appetite to work for this chance again, if I can work hard enough to pull that off (a feat in itself), then next year’s additional goal is to claim a counter position.
Thanks again go to Joe, Mario, Andy and Adair, Rachel and Patrick for cheering me on and all their support on the day. Also cheers again to everyone at the club who wished me good luck in the run up as it meant heaps and certainly gave me motivation to ‘dig-in’ when the mud threatened to almost swallow me whole :D”

It was also the Trafford 10k on Sunday which saw John Thompson improve his time yet again. Some words from John below
“I ran the Trafford 10K on Sunday and managed a PB with 46.23. So times still going in the right direction!
There was a really strong field out which charged off and set a great pace for everyone to follow. The course is very flat and fast and well sheltered so really recommend it to anyone looking for a quick 10K time. Cheers, John”
