Road and Fells Championship 2011 – Decisions Meeting

It’s nearing that time of year when our club Road and Fell Championship races need to be decided.

If anyone would like to add/nominate certain events to fit into the calendar then by all means let myself, Steve, Andy, Phil, Joe, Ian etc know by next Wednesday night 2nd March, as we’ll hold a meeting after the run, roughly 8pm, to go through the calendar and hopefully choose specific events for the two series.

Views and ideas are always welcome about which races to include and everyone is welcome to the meeting.

If you would like any more information then please contact or why not leave some ideas on the comments section here

Regards

Adair

Border League and Cross Country Updates – Feb 2011

With just a few races left in both the Border League and Cross Country series races I have updated the tables with the latest positions.

The last few Border League Races of the season offer a great opportunity not just to support the club but also to get some excellent  preparation ready for the summer road series. Details of which will be announced soon.

Sandstone trail challenge 2011

We’re relaunching the much loved Sandstone Trail Challenge for 2011. A formidable challenge for runners and walkers alike, this event has a long history of involvement from Helsby RC and we’re relaunching it as an LDWA event for the current year.

Not just for runners! We’re a running club, but this an event for walkers and runners. Indeed half the places will be reserved for walkers, so there’s no danger of them being outnumbered. There’s an interesting round-up from Andy Robinson here.

Find out more on the Helsby website. Any questions, ask at the club  or email andy@crewood.net. See you on May 21! Be warned, it’s likely to sell out, we’re already half full, primarily from word of mouth.

We’re on twitter!

Image: Bruno Maia, IconTexto - http://www.icontexto.comIf you’re a twitterer, this will be exciting news to you. If not, you might wonder what all the fuss is about. Anyway, we’re on there. Keep in touch with Helsby news, spread the word.

Four villages buffs now on eBay

The most excellent Four Villages Buffs are now available on eBay. Already being seen around as the apres-race accessory for the discerning runner. These are genuine buffs, generally retailing at 13 or 14 quid, in a never-to-be-repeated 30th anniversary commemorative design.

Fill your boots over at eBay, where you can pay the frankly ridiculous sum of £7.50 for this cult item. And it’s post free.

I was Buff-sceptic, till I tried one. It’s a really functional bit of kit, taking up almost zero space in your pack. I’d recommend getting a spare in case yours is requisitioned elsewhere.

Border league race 4 results – details to follow

Great to see so many Helsby vests on Sunday for the Christleton Border League Race

Quite a cool and cloudy morning with a promise of rain but that did not seem to deter too many people. The course was slightly under 10k due to a slightly modified start, but once free of the housing estate quite a ‘pleasant’ run through country roads with a small muddy track 8k into the race and cobbled bridges to counter.

Gallant running from Dave Madders after cycling to the race and missing the start to finish strongly. Congratulations also to Albert Berry securing 1st position in his age category. Well done also to Nesta and Kay with very strong performances in what is their first Border league event. I’m sure we can all remember how tough that first event is!

Well done everybody as I know some members are training hard for various events and marathons approaching.

Having a full mens team and ladies team really secures our positions in the team tables and gives us something to build on.

Great support once again from Joe Beswick.

If you have any comments and thoughts about the event please add them to the blog. It’s great to have feedback.

Farndon 10k cancelled due to road closure cost

The Farndon 10k Road Race on 6 March has been CANCELLED. Peter Norman says the West Cheshire SAG (Safety Advisory Group – paul.riley@cheshire.pnn.police.uk ) have insisted on road closures. The costs (£1225) are too high and can’t be afforded at the current race entry fees.

However, the course will be marked out on the day in case anyone turns up for a free training run — 1:00pm, Sunday 6th March 2011. Thoughts? http://www.wrexhamroadrunners.org.uk
