The Pipe dream Fell race on Saturday saw Jim Jones into a top 50 placing on this tough up and downer in Dolgarrog. Jim’s race report is below.
“I did the Pipe Dream fell race in Dolgarrog on Saturday. The weather turned out well with it being a bright cool morning but it was still wet and muddy underfoot throughout the race. It was the first time I’d done this race and I’d heard a lot about the steep ascent up the steps right after the start. However, there was a route change this year on account of some major works being undertaken on the pipe. So we set off on a very steep zig zag climb through the woods to the left of the pipe and rejoined the pipe after about 0.8 of a mile. We then followed the pipe along the top to then what seemed a mad dash back down to Dolgarrog.
The descent was a real mixed bag and technically challenging. There really did seem to be a bit of everything from grassy tussocks, woodland with a stream-bed and plenty of rocks and roots to negotiate, to metalled road, and even a construction site! (which I understand was a further temporary deviation in the route this year). Again, being a newcomer to fell running, the descent was where I lost a lot of time. But at least I now know where to cut the corners next year, as there was some scope to choose your route.
Eryri, who host the race, are inviting feedback on their blog as to whether to keep the zig zag climb instead of the steps for next year.”
44th Jim Jones 57.10

Please also find some information from Louise regarding the new Thursday night sessions.
“Hi all
Col and I went to try Chris Baynham-Hughes and Roy Gaskill’s session this evening at Phoenix Park.
I found it to be a very enjoyable and varied session with a wide range of activities that had been carefully thought about to improve overall running fitness.
The activities were suitable for myself and Colin despite the difference in pace and ability.
The park was very quiet, had plenty of lighting and the pathyways made it perfect for running in colder/rainier weather.
I would highly recommend!
Lou & Colin”
As always, keep on running
